Steward Elsie Scott will be awarded a Living Hope Award by Greater Mt. Nebo AME Church in Bowie, MD during the 11:00 am service, Sun, Feb 21.
On Friday, January 15, 2010, Mrs. Wilma George Shepherd celebrated her 100th birthday. Her family hosted a birthday party on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the Xi Omega Alpha Kappa Alpha House. Mrs. Shepherd was born in Macon, Georgia and grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was one of the first African American graduates of University of Pittburgh.
She worked as an educator for the public school system for over 30 years. She was also a teacher of the Senior Class in the Church School for over 30 years. She also served as a Deaconess and a Class Leader.

Did you know the oldest Washingtonian, Mrs. Eddye Williams, who turned 110 on January 4, is a member of Metropolitan AME? Last year, when she turned 109, she came to church for her birthday, and she spoke and sang for the congregation. Read more. . .
President Obama announced his intent to nominate Marie Johns for Deputy Administrator, Small Business Administration. Marie, a Steward at Metropolitan, is the Founder and Managing Member of L&L Consulting, LLC. She retired as President of Verizon Washington, DC after a career of over 20 years in the telecommunications industry. She currently serves as a trustee of Howard University. Congratulations to Marie.
Gladys Gary Vaughn, Special Assistant to the Asst Secy for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and member of Metropolitan AME, has been elected to serve as secretary of Habitat for Humanity International’s board of directors. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority and is the immediate past national president of The Links.
