Worship

Metropolitan's spiritual mission is based on strong inherent principles that have remained steadfast since the church's founding. It is our objective to provide and create an environment that encourages worshipers to experience the holy spirit through mission work and outreach programs. Metropolitan continuously strives to be a force for social justice in the church and throughout our local and global communities.

I'm New—What To Expect:

Attending a Sunday morning worship service is one of the best ways to learn more about the Metropolitan AME Church. The five steps below will help you when you choose to come visit us.

  1.  Parking is available on Sunday mornings on M Street directly across from the church in the NEA parking garage or on M Street between 16 and 17th Street in the PMI lot on the right hand side of the street.
  2.  Next, greeters will welcome you at the door and may answer any questions you may have. If you have children 6th grade or under, ask directions to the Church School, where you can check them in to safe and fun classes.
  3.  As you enter our sanctuary, ushers will greet you and help you find a seat.
  4. Our services typically begin with hymns—led by our choir—followed by prayers, scripture reading, the offering and sermon. We invite you to join us in worshiping the Lord.
  5. To sample a Metropolitan AME Sunday morning, visit the Sermons page to download and listen to a sermon.

We encourage guests to visit Douglass Hall immediately following each service. Here you'll fellowship with Church staff, elders and members who will offer you coffee and light refreshments while answering your questions and providing you with resources about our church.
