Chicken Soup for the Soul
Several years ago an author penned a book entitled Chicken Soup for the Soul. The book, containing short stories of people dealing with life experiences, was written in a manner to uplift the readers and provide comfort in the midst of troubling times. The book’s popularity initiated a variety of sequels.
One sequel was entitled A Little Spoonful of Chicken Soup for the Mother’s Soul. This booklet had just a few short stories. One that caught my eye was “An Indescribable Gift.” The story told of a child slipping into the world, and into the arms of the mother, placed there by heaven. A child sent straight from God--- an indescribable gift. As the parents looked at the baby, peace and purity filled the air. They whispered, “We are glad you are here. We waited so long for you.”
In the child’s eyes, the mother sees total recognition, unconditional love, and complete trust. It seems as if she is in the presence of a great, wise sage.
Time flies and the mother watches the child grow. Suddenly, she realizes the child is an adult, ready to soar into the world and give what he/she came here for. The child is not hers to keep. The child came to teach us our lessons, to give us joy, make us whole, and connect us to God.
Is that our story? Jesus came to teach us, and provide unconditional love and comfort. Too soon He died for our sins so we could be whole and connected to God.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, remind us that we can always find comfort when we focus on You. Amen
