Advent 2022: Come Lord and Save Us by Joan Oxendine
“Be alert and sober of mind. Your enemy, the devil prowls around like a roaming lion looking for someone to devour”
- 1 Peter 5:8 NIV
Advent Day 14
December 10, 2022
Come Lord and Save Us
In the twenty-first century, the world has become an international family. The news comes into our homes, letting us know in real time what war looks like in countries far away. We see the destruction as it is occurring; families displaced, children traumatized, property destroyed, and world leaders making decisions about whether they should get involved. We can hardly believe and understand what we are seeing. There is never a good reason for war. It usually can be determined that power and greed had something to do with it.
War is the most destructive force on humankind and those who support it will have to justify their decisions to God. The people of Ukraine have been pelted with weapons of war for most of this year and there is no justification. Our prayers are for the innocent who are being slaughtered.
“The Lord will grant that the enemy who rises up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you in one direction but flee from you in seven.” Deuteronomy 28:7 NIV
We look forward to the coming of the Lord, who brings peace, justice, love, kindness, compassion, forgiveness, and salvation.

We invite you to join us during the Advent season as we reflect on the virtues of Hope, Joy, Peace, and Love; as we anticipate Christ's birth; and prepare our hearts to receive him.
Each day a new reflection with a scripture and prayer will be posted on the Metropolitan AME Church website and social media to encourage you as we prepare.
Read along with us each day or download the book to read and reflect along with us offline.
