Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host,
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Amen.

Rev. A. Kazimir Brown

One: Ever felt abandoned to the grave? Left to languish in places and situations that did not speak life?

Many: It was impossible for death to hold Jesus;

One: In the face of poverty and lack, in the face of unjust governmental systems and religious institutions that don’t respond:

Many: It was impossible for death to hold Jesus; it’s impossible for death to hold us

One: In the face of sadness as disease, death and hopelessness threaten our very existence

Many: It was impossible for death to hold Jesus; it’s impossible for death to hold us

One: Where is the voice of the prophet? Where is the call to hope?

Many: This is our prophetic hope: It was impossible for death to hold Jesus; it’s impossible for death to hold us.

Crown Him with Many Crowns

African Methodist Episcopal Church #174

Crown Him with many crowns,
The Lamb upon His throne;
Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns
All music but its own.
Awake, my soul and sing
Of Him who died for thee,
And hail Him as thy matchless King
Through all eternity.

Crown Him the Lord of life,
Who triumphed o'er the grave,
And rose victorious in the strife
For those He came to save;
His glories now we sing
Who died, and rose on high,
Who died, eternal life to bring,
And lives, that death may die.

Crown Him the Lord of peace,
Whose power a scepter sways
From pole to pole, that wars may cease,
And all be prayer and praise;
His reign shall know no end,
And round His pierced feet
Fair flowers of Paradise extend
Their fragrance ever sweet.

Crown Him the Lord of love;
Behold His hands and side,
Those wounds, yet visible above,
In beauty glorified.
All hail, Redeemer, hail!
For Thou hast died for me;
Thy praise and glory shall not fail
Throughout eternity.

Amen.

Rev. A. Kazimir Brown

Mark 16:1-8 NRSVue

When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. They had been saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him.  But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.” So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

Leader: God of the Oppressed, your Son Jesus lived within the structures of society even as he spoke truth to those in power and challenged systems of oppression.
People: We are encouraged to speak prophetically, act boldly, love radically, and speak truth to power faithfully and without fear.
Leader: Grant that our life in the public realm be grounded in love for our neighbors, care for the most vulnerable in our midst, and respect for the common life we share, following the example of Jesus Christ.
People: Bless our land with honesty in our neighborhoods and workplaces, truth in education, and honor and dignity in daily life.
Leader: Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance; and from every evil course of action. Let us be mindful of the great cloud of ancestral witnesses.
People: In this season, we remember the witness of: Fannie Lou Hamer, Sojourner Truth, John Lewis, Coretta Scott King, Ella Baker, Bayard Rustin, Medgar Evers, Rosa Parks, and Shirley Chisolm.
ALL: Empower us to be courageous disciples and responsible citizens acting for the flourishing of all. Ashe and Amen.

More Love to Thee, O Christ

African Methodist Episcopal Church Hymnal #460

United Voices of Metropolitan

More love to Thee, O Christ,
More love to Thee!
Hear Thou the prayer I make
On bended knee;
This is my earnest plea:
More love, O Christ, to Thee,
More love to Thee,
More love to Thee!

Once earthly joy I craved,
Sought peace and rest;
Now Thee alone I seek,
Give what is best.
This all my prayer shall be:
More love, O Christ, to Thee,
More love to Thee,
More love to Thee!

Then shall my latest breath
Whisper Thy praise;
This be the parting cry
My heart shall raise:
This still its prayer shall be,
More love, O Christ, to Thee,
More love to Thee,
More love to Thee!

Amen.

Sis. Mikayla Street

Mark 12: 28-34 NRSVue

One of the scribes came near and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well he asked him, “Which commandment is the first of all?” Jesus answered, “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Then the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher; you have truly said that ‘he is one, and besides him there is no other’; and ‘to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength’ and ‘to love one’s neighbor as oneself’—this is much more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” After that no one dared to ask him any question.

God Wants A Yes

by James Hall

United Voices of Metropolitan

God wants a yes

Yes

Oh yes

Yes

Yes, to His will, yes, to His way

When the cares of life weigh you down

Just know that He's making you,

He's molding you;

Come what may

It's still

yes, yes

Yes, yes, I'll do what You say

Go where you want me to go

Not my will but Thy be done

Yes, yes, yes

Yes, yes, my soul says yes;

Come what may

It's still

yes, yes

Solicitation - Pastor William H. Lamar IV

General Confession - led by Pastor William H. Lamar IV

Almighty God, Mother and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all people, we acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, which we from time to time most grievously have committed by thought, word and deed against Your divine Majesty, provoking most justly your wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings; the remembrance of them is grievous unto us. Have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us, most merciful Parent for Your Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake; forgive us all that is past and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please You in newness of life, to the honor and glory of Your name, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

The Lord's Prayer - led by Pastor William H. Lamar IV

Our Father and Our Mother, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
