Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host,
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Amen.

Rev. A. Kazimir Brown

One: Ever felt abandoned to the grave? Left to languish in places and situations that did not speak life?

Many: It was impossible for death to hold Jesus;

One: In the face of poverty and lack, in the face of unjust governmental systems and religious institutions that don’t respond:

Many: It was impossible for death to hold Jesus; it’s impossible for death to hold us

One: In the face of sadness as disease, death and hopelessness threaten our very existence

Many: It was impossible for death to hold Jesus; it’s impossible for death to hold us

One: Where is the voice of the prophet? Where is the call to hope?

Many: This is our prophetic hope: It was impossible for death to hold Jesus; it’s impossible for death to hold us.

Crown Him with Many Crowns

African Methodist Episcopal Church #174

Crown Him with many crowns,
The Lamb upon His throne;
Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns
All music but its own.
Awake, my soul and sing
Of Him who died for thee,
And hail Him as thy matchless King
Through all eternity.

Crown Him the Lord of life,
Who triumphed o'er the grave,
And rose victorious in the strife
For those He came to save;
His glories now we sing
Who died, and rose on high,
Who died, eternal life to bring,
And lives, that death may die.

Crown Him the Lord of peace,
Whose power a scepter sways
From pole to pole, that wars may cease,
And all be prayer and praise;
His reign shall know no end,
And round His pierced feet
Fair flowers of Paradise extend
Their fragrance ever sweet.

Crown Him the Lord of love;
Behold His hands and side,
Those wounds, yet visible above,
In beauty glorified.
All hail, Redeemer, hail!
For Thou hast died for me;
Thy praise and glory shall not fail
Throughout eternity.

Amen.

Rev. A. Kazimir Brown

Mark 16:1-8 NRSVue

When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. They had been saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him.  But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.” So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

Good Favor
By The Clark Sisters

Sisters in the Spirit Chorale

When you're looking at me, you see someone grateful

When you're looking at me, you see someone blessed

When you're looking at me, you can see God is covering me, oh

I got that good, favor

I got that good, favor

I got that good, favor

Oh, God has smiled on me

When you're looking at me you see someone unworthy

When you're looking at me you see far from perfect

When you're looking at me you can see blessings showering me, oh

If you wanna know what a miracle looks like

Look at me, look at me

If you wanna know what a miracle looks like

Look at me

If you wanna know what a miracle looks like

Just look at me, look at me

If you wanna know what victorious looks like

Look at me

Smiled on me, smiled on me

I got that good, favor

Oh, God has smiled on me

Oh, God has smiled on me

Oh, God has smiled on me

I don’t look like what I’ve been through

But I look like God’s favor

“The New Year means also the opportunity to make a revision in one's personal timetable, to look at one's life objectively, to step aside and see one's self go by, and to assess, for instance, how one spends one's time; to see how much of one's time in a twenty--four hour period is given to the cultivation of one's own life, one's own resources; and the cultivation of those qualities which can improve the self. So often we are involved in so many activities, doing all kinds of things in response to the multitudinous pressure of the variegated demands that are made upon us, that we are somehow unable to make a little corner in our time just for. ourselves and for the cultivation of our own resources against the time when we are unable to do so.”   (Howard Thurman, “The New Year,” in The Mood of Christmas, 186)

Leader: When we pass through the cleansing waters of baptism and the troubled waters of our lives, God declares:
People: I will be with you.
Leader: When we go through the fires that refine us and the fires that threaten our livelihoods, God declares:
People: I will be with you.
Leader: Even when we travel to the far corners of the earth or down into the depths of our souls, God declares:
People: I will be with you.
Leader: So come, let us worship God whose love never fails, whose presence never leaves, whose mercies never end.
People: Praise be to God who, in the form of Jesus, waded into the waters of baptism to prove God’s solidarity with us! Amen.

A Mighty Fortress is Our God

African Methodist Episcopal Church Hymnal #54

Sisters in the Spirit Chorale

A mighty fortress is our God,

A bulwark never failing;

Our helper He amid the flood

Of mortal ills prevailing:

For still our ancient foe

Doth seek to work us woe;

His craft and power are great,

And, armed with cruel hate,

On earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide,

Our striving would be losing,

Were not the right man on our side,

The man of God's own choosing:

Dost ask who that may be?

Christ Jesus, it is He;

Lord Sabaoth, His name,

From age to age the same,

And He must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled,

Should threaten to undo us,

We will not fear, for God hath willed

His truth to triumph through us:

The Prince of Darkness grim,

We tremble not for him;

His rage we can endure,

For lo, his doom is sure;

One little word shall fell him.

That word above all earthly powers,

No thanks to them, abideth;

The Spirit and the gifts are ours

Through Him who with us sideth:

Let goods and kindred go,

This mortal life also;

The body they may kill:

God's truth abideth still;

His kingdom is forever.

All Day Long

By GMWA

Sisters in the Spirit Chorale

All day long I've been with Jesus
All day long my lips
have uttered praise
All day long my heart,
My soul's been lifted in worship
All day long I have been with Him

No way could I ever honor You enough
For all you have done for me
So I will offer up thanksgiving
From my heart
And praise continually

Bro. Kole Corbitt

Luke 3:15-17, 21-22 NRSVue

As the people were filled with expectation and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Messiah, John answered all of them by saying, “I baptize you with water, but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his granary, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”

Now when all the people were baptized and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.”
