Advent 2022: Let's Go by Rev. Geoffrey Tate, Sr.

“I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord, our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.”

- Psalm 122:1-2

Advent Day 10
December 6, 2022

Let's Go

This Psalm was written by David for the people of Israel when they came up to Jerusalem to worship at the three solemn feasts: Passover (the Feast of Unleavened Bread); Pentecost (the Feast of Weeks) and Sukkoth (the Feast of Booths). The invitation was very welcomed. So much so, that David himself was glad.

Psalm 122: 1-2 is also the first line in the traditional African Methodist Episcopal Church Call to Worship. We are invited to “enter His gates with thanksgiving,” to “bless The Lord at all times, (for) His praise shall continually be in your mouth,” and to remember that everyday is “the day that the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

It is the will of God that we worship together and in our houses, but that’s not enough. We must “go into the house of The Lord” to pay homage to Him there. Encourage one another to worship God in public. Let us go – not, you go first then we come later, let us go together to honor God for our mutual edification and encouragement. Are you ready? Let’s go!

Prayer: In the name of Jesus, let us walk together and not get weary. Rejoice in the name of The Lord for the things He has done. Rejoice I say, rejoice! Amen.

Advent 2022

We invite you to join us during the Advent season as we reflect on the virtues of Hope, Joy, Peace, and Love; as we anticipate Christ's birth; and prepare our hearts to receive him.

Each day a new reflection with a scripture and prayer will be posted on the Metropolitan AME Church website and social media to encourage you as we prepare.

Read along with us each day or download the book to read and reflect along with us offline.
