Advent 2023: Advent Sunday by Elias "Pete" Prioleau

Let the hills sing for joy together before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity."

Psalm 98:8-9

December 5, 2023

The first Sunday of Advent is a reverent day in the Christian community and offers an opportunity for renewal and the beginning of this holy season. It marks the ushering in of the liturgical year where we observe a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the nativity or birth of Christ and his return in the Second Coming. We prepare to officially remember and give thanks for the birth of Jesus, our Lord and savior.

Our focus is on God’s gift of the divine presence incarnate in Jesus. He was born of humble origins and destined to fulfill the promises made in the Hebrew scriptures. Advent has a double meaning. We celebrate the birth of Christ, and we wait in hope for his return at the end of time.

Prayer: Lord, our God, we praise You for Your Son, Jesus Christ, for He is Emmanuel, the hope of all people.

He is the wisdom that teaches and guides us. He is the Savior of us all. O Lord, let your blessing come upon us as we light the first (purple) candle of the wreath. Amen.

Advent Guide 2023

As we stand in expectation of peace on Earth and reflect on the events of our times and the lives of our brothers, sisters and siblings in Christ, we await change and new birth.

We seek, listen and perceive the presence of God in words of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love.

We invite you to join us in meditation, reflection, prayer and spiritual disciplines throughout the season of Advent and beyond.

Read along with us each day or download the book to read and reflect along with us offline.
