Worship for the Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany and Holy Communion Sunday, starts tomorrow at 10 am and is live streamed on Facebook and YouTube.

We encourage your presence in Church school on Sundays at 8:30am; Morning Meditations with Metropolitan at 7 am Monday through Friday; the Men's Prayer Call at 7:30 am on Monday; Noonday Study on Wednesday at noon; and Pastor's Study with Rev. Dr. Smith and Dr. Dana at 7pm.

Metropolitan will observe Ash Wednesday in-person on February 14th at noon and 7pm. Join us in the sanctuary for a time of prayer and meditation as we begin the Season of Lent.


February 25th is HBCU Sunday! Rep your HBCU or Greek Letter Organization’s colors, logo, or mascot and enjoy the sound of the Metropolitan’s very own, The Kollective!

April 28 is National Blueberry Pie Day and National Superhero Day.  But that’s not why we will be celebrating.

We believe that every veteran who has bravely served our country deserves a safe and dignified place to call home.

Metropolitan AME Church (“Metropolitan”) and the Daniel Alexander Payne Community Development Corporation (“Payne CDC”) are excited to announce our preliminary plans to construct a residential tower on the grounds of our historic church, Metropolitan AME Church, at 1518 M Street NW.

This tower will serve as a home for 28 unhoused, at-risk military veterans who are in desperate need of stable housing and support services.

The Men's Prayer Call is a sacred space where brothers can share and explore their relationship with God in Christ Jesus. All brothers are encouraged to join. The call will be every Monday Morning from 7:30 am – 7:45 am on Zoom.

Train up your child in the way they should go and when they are old they will not depart from it. Church School meets each Sunday morning at 8:30 am, and concludes at 10am in Douglass Hall. There are classes available for EVERYONE! We will be excited to see you in attendance!


Noonday continues at noon this week. We continue to read Dr. Judy Fentress-Williams' Holy Imagination: A Literary and Theological Introduction to the Whole Bible.

We invite you to join us as we contemplate the scripture and its implications as we engage in the world. Join us on Zoom.

Pastor's Study continues this week. We are reading This Here Flesh: Spirituality, Liberation, and the Stories that Make Us Better by Cole Arthur Riley. Rev. Shively TJ Smith and Dr. Dana A. Williams will be our discussion leaders. Join us for 12 weeks of close reading of a book that critics describe as "storytelling that helps us examine our capacity to rest, wonder, and repair." Please join the Washington Interfaith Network on Thursday evening,  February 8th, at  6:15pm at St Matthew Lutheran Church for a casual dinner and teach in as it kicks off its Political Education Series with presenter Metropolitan's own Professor Anthony  E. The Sons and Daughters of Allen will host a READ-IN with Pearl P Cook Senior Club on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 11 AM via zoom and on Sunday February 25 following worship in Douglass Hall. 

We invite anyone who wishes to read and recite writing by African Americans, especially young people.

Sojourners, a Christian non-profit organization focused on social and racial justice, seeks your help to reimagine what supporting young children and their families can look like in our churches!

The Sarah Allen Missionary Society Food Bank of the Metropolitan AME Church is excited to announce that in-person food bank operations will be held on Saturday, February  24th from 9 am to 3 pm.

The Sons and Daughters of Allen present the 2024 Cultural Arts Festival. This year's theme is Bridging the Generation Gap through Music and the Arts. The festival will take place Saturday March 2, 2024 at 12 noon. The festival with feature the youth of Metropolitan and Howard University.

Tickets are $35 and vendors can exhibit for $50. You may purchase tickets from any member.

Prints will be available for purchase until April 30th for $175. They can be purchased after service on Sundays from 12:30-1: 30 p.m.
