Grace and peace in this season after Pentecost.
During the weekend, we invite you to join us in worship in the sanctuary or online tomorrow, Sunday, July 2. We're celebrating 185 years of groundbreaking worship, community enrichment, and Christ-centered activism. Our church anniversary celebration begins at 10 am and is livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube. Immediately following service, join us in Douglass Hall for a ministry fair, and New Members orientation continues in the Pruitt Boardroom.
During the week, we encourage your presence in Morning Meditations with Metropolitan at 7 am Monday through Friday, the Men's Prayer Call at 7:30 am on Monday, and Noonday & Pastor’s Study at noon and 7 pm on Wednesday.
For our study, we are in dialogue with Dr. Judy Fentress-Williams' Holy Imagination: A Literary and Theological Introduction to the Whole Bible. You're invited to join the study and conversation as we contemplate scripture and its implications as we engage in the world. Sessions are on Zoom and YouTube and replays are available each week. If you would like to purchase the book, you can find it at Bookshop, Target, and on Amazon.
Need to join via phone? You can dial in for an audio-only livestream at 1-929-205-6099, 975804722.
Please subscribe to our YouTube Channel and you'll be notified every time we are live. You can subscribe here: https://www.youtube.com/metropolitaname.
"I praise God for your ministries. We are impacting the District of Columbia, the DMV, and the world through worship, liberation, and service. Yesterday we won a judgment against the Proud Boys in the amount of $1,036,626.78 plus costs and interest at the statutory rate."
This is the fourth largest judgement against a white supremacist organization in the history of the United States.
"The God of justice is pleased. Jesus the liberator is pleased. Holy Spirit is breathing upon us. Our ancestors are smiling. Let us continue to be faithful. A luta continua! The beautiful struggle continues!"
-Pastor William H. Lamar IV

“It’s our anniversary!” Happy anniversary to Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church! This day marks 185 years of groundbreaking worship, community enrichment, and Christ-centered activism. Welcome to all - online and in person worshippers.Hallelujah - here’s to 185 more years of cultivating stewards of community!
I am also asking each of you to make a generous anniversary gift to Metropolitan before July 31, 2023, beyond your regular tithes and offerings...Why give to Metropolitan? Because we are answering God’s call for the present age. We are planning to provide housing for unhoused veterans. We fight ecological apartheid and climate injustice by organizing people around the nation to ensure that Black, brown, and poor communities are not doomed to be stifling heat islands... We fight the displacement of Black people in the District of Columbia. We stand up against legislation that would further criminalize Black youth in our city.
-Pastor William H. Lamar IV

“Truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
