Older Americans Month (OAM), a time to recognize older Americans' contributions, highlights aging trends, and reaffirms commitments to serving the older adults in our communities. The 2024 theme, Powered by Connection, recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being. Connectedness plays a vital role in supporting independence and aging in place by combatting isolation, loneliness, and other issues. ...we are answering God’s call for the present age. We are planning to provide housing for unhoused veterans. We fight ecological apartheid and climate injustice by organizing people around the nation to ensure that Black, brown, and poor communities are not doomed to be stifling heat islands... We fight the displacement of Black people in the District of Columbia. We stand up against legislation that would further criminalize Black youth in our city.
-Pastor William H. Lamar IV
