Metropolitan Newsletter - Week of May 4, 2024

Worship for the Sixth Sunday of Easter and Holy Communion Sunday, starts tomorrow at 10 am in the sanctuary and live streamed on Facebook and YouTube.

We encourage your presence in Church school on Sundays at 8:30am; Morning Meditations with Metropolitan at 7 am Monday through Friday; the Men's Prayer Call at 7:30 am on Monday; Noonday Study on Wednesday at noon; and Pastor's Study with Rev. Dr. Smith and Dr. Dana at 7pm.

Engage with us this week and beyond- Sign the petition for a Just DC Budget for FY25 today; purchase your pastoral anniversary merchandise tomorrow in Lee-Glover after worship; participate in the SAMs book exchange; access the course materials for study with Rev. Dr. Smith and Dr. Dana as it continues this Wednesday; Save the dates for the MAMEC Scholarship luncheon (June 8), Cradle Roll's annual program (July 14) and VBS (July 22-26); and connect with a senior this month in celebration of Older Americans month.

Older Americans Month (OAM), a time to recognize older Americans' contributions, highlights aging trends, and reaffirms commitments to serving the older adults in our communities. The 2024 theme, Powered by Connection, recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being. Connectedness plays a vital role in supporting independence and aging in place by combatting isolation, loneliness, and other issues. Connect with a senior and experience the benefit of connection for the senior and for you.

Worship with us at 10 am every Sunday on Facebook & YouTube, and on our website.
Need to join via phone? You can dial in for an audio-only livestream at 1-929-205-6099, 975804722.

Act now.

Remember, this initiative isn't solely for DC residents. Justice for our nation's capital concerns us all.

Your involvement is invaluable. Let's join forces for positive change!

WIN DC is organized and dedicated to working alongside our District leaders to create a more just and equitable District of Columbia. As you are working with Council colleagues, governmental agencies, and advocates to rework the proposed FY25 budget, we ask you to consider WIN DC's budget recommendations:

  • Invest in Affordable Housing and Homeownership

  • Invest in Healthy Housing and Affordability

  • Invest in Public Safety

We encourage the DC Council to collaborate with each other, WIN DC, and other community advocates to devise concrete and progressive revenue-raising solutions for this budget season. As WIN DC, we are committed to collaborating with each DC Council member to develop a fair and equitable FY25 budget.

By endorsing the budget priorities outlined by the Washington Interfaith Network, we can urge District leaders to reinvest in public safety and provide affordable, secure housing for all residents.

...we are answering God’s call for the present age. We are planning to provide housing for unhoused veterans. We fight ecological apartheid and climate injustice by organizing people around the nation to ensure that Black, brown, and poor communities are not doomed to be stifling heat islands... We fight the displacement of Black people in the District of Columbia. We stand up against legislation that would further criminalize Black youth in our city.
