Pastoral Concerns for the Week of December 27, 2020

Greetings Metropolitan family and friends,

I hope the Christmas season continues to bring you and your families joy and peace. A new year is coming!

The ministerial staff will offer the final “Meditations with Metropolitan” this week. Please join us Monday-Friday from 7-7:15am. To sign up to offer a meditation or to share your prayer requests in the coming year, email the Morning Meditations team at prayer.metro1518@gmail.com.

Knowing that “nothing can separate us from God’s love” (Romans 8:38), we will serve Holy Communion as a part of our virtual worship experience again this first Sunday. We believe that all are welcome at God’s table. Not only is the altar at Metropolitan holy; the tables in our homes and the food we share are holy because they are God’s good gifts to us. As a reminder, we invite you to create your own communion table. If possible, use bread and grape juice or wine; or pray and be directed by God’s Spirit for an acceptable substitute.

Noonday and Pastor’s Study will resume in the New Year on January 6, 2021.

Continue to join us on Saturdays at 11am for Café Met on Facebook and YouTube.

We will be updating the administrative tools our staff uses to run the daily operations of our church. A part of this update will include new ways to give. We’re adding more ways to communicate and connect as a church as well. We hope you will be as excited as we are about these new features and functionalities. Stay tuned!

Please take a moment to respond to the Youth and Family Ministry survey sent in the weekly newsletter. Feedback and suggestions are welcomed to better plan for the 2021 calendar year. Please submit your feedback by Monday, January 4, 2021. We are also seeking volunteers to help assist with virtual youth meetings and administrative tasks. Please contact Rev. Brackeen or Sis. Evan Taylor at youthministry@metropolitanamec.org for more information.

Please join us for Watch Night service on Thursday, December 31 at 6pm on Zoom. The log-in information is the same as Sunday Virtual Worship service.

Your giving is a wonderful expression of God’s generosity. As we celebrate 182 years of ministry as Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church, we are asking each member to consider making a gift of $1,820, $1,082, $782, $582, $282, $182, or $18.20 by December 31, 2020. We also ask that you continue to give weekly or monthly in one of these ways: via check mailed to Metropolitan AME Church, via credit card on the website, and via text or Cash App. To text to give, text “metro1518” to 73256; our Cash App handle is $MetropolitanAME. We have long been and will continue to be good stewards of your giving.

We pray for those experiencing grief, especially Rev. Jonathan Petty in the passing of his great aunt Pauline Mosely; Dr. Mercedes Dickson in the passing of her niece; Rev. Moya Harris in the passing of her great uncle Will Armstead Boothe; and Josie and Brittany Jones and Dee Elliot and family in the passing of Bro. Ray Jones.

Please continue to pray for health, strength, and healing all of those in need. We ask especially for your prayers for the father of Sis. Evan Taylor, Deaconess Beverly Lee, Sis. Rosemarie Elliott, Sis. Janice Ferebee, Bro. Lacey Flagg, Dr. Mercedes Dickson, Rev. Aisha Karimah, Sister Ruby Joyce, Dr. Charles Curry, Deaconess Mary Burroughs, Deaconess Jeanette Spicer, and Mother Ethel Delaney Lee.

Your faithfulness continues to be a testament to our joy and resilience in these challenging times. We hope you will stay connected with us—daily for morning meditation, on Wednesdays for study, on Saturdays for Cafe MET, and on Sundays for worship.

Grace and Peace,

Bill Lamar
